Cosmic rays comprise several ubiquitous particle populations in the solar system. The outstanding problem of modern cosmic-ray astrophysics is understanding the interaction of these energetic particles with the global structure of the heliosphere. We review some transport models developed at the UC Riverside to study the interaction of cosmic rays with regular and chaotic magnetic fields in the solar system. We discuss implicit numerical methods used to solve the Parker transport equation along with some useful techniques, including adaptive mesh refinement and parallel tridiagonal solvers. Two principal applications are discussed: galactic cosmic-ray modulation in the heliosheath and anomalous cosmic-ray acceleration at the termination shock.
