The future of Berkeley's Radio Astronomy Laboratory is examined in the light of a number of current radio, millimeter and submillimeter projects around the world. There are several models that are viable in the changing world of university-based radio astronomy. However, it seems unlikely that observatories built and operated by a single university will be viable in the future.
