In the light of a discovery by Chandra, that the jet in Pictor A is a strong source of X-ray emission, we wich to use the ATCA to produce images of the sources at 4.8 GHz, concentrating on imaging the jet. The ATCA at this frequency, and with multiple configuration observations, in combination with the broadband upgrades to the correlator, should produce the better images than previously published from the ATCA, which did not detect the jet, or from the VLA, which only weakly detected the jet. We wish to compare the Pictor A radio and X-ray jet structures and attempt to constrain the X-ray emission mechanism. Our observations will also provide important tests to determine whether the ATCA upgrades alleviate the dynamic range issues that plagued pre-upgrade ATCA observations. The observations will also test many aspects of the software upgrades made to Miriad that will allow it to calibrate and image CABB data.
