A combination of increased recording bandwidths and computing power and software correlation flexibility suggest that in-beam phase referencing is now feasible with the LBA. The feasibility depends critically on the properties of the faint radio source population at VLBI resolutions, something which is also of intrinsic scientific interest. We will observe three pointings within the ATESP field to undertake in-beam phase referencing on seven or so sources in the field. Our results will yield insights into the AGN/Starburst ratio for faint radio sources at 5 GHz and complement observations being made of the ATLAS fields.
