Combining the mass loss rate, visual brightness with polarization we found that the mass loss rate is correlated with the Normal-SD phase (t<10 yr). The rise/decline of visual brightness in a cyclic Normal-SD corresponds to an increase/decrease of the mass loss rate. Furthermore, the polarization data seems to provide evidence that the brightening phase is accompanied by more asymmetric mass loss. We thus deduced that the asymmetric circumstellar envelope induced by the asymmetric mass loss is the cause of light variation.
