The phenomenon of ``reversed granulation'', i.e. the partial reversal of the intensity pattern occurring in the low photosphere, is predicted by numerical simulations and mostly observed in the extended wings of chromospheric lines. In this contribution we present high spatial resolution 2D maps of the reversed granulation, obtained from line core images of the photospheric Fe I 7090.4 Å line, as well as the temporal evolution of their correlation with continuum maps, that suggests the presence of gravity waves in the mid-photosphere.
