We have an accepted Chandra/Swift ToO proposal for observation of one new bright Galactic transient detected by the FERMI Large Area Telescope (LAT) at |b| < 5 with a flux exceeding 2 10-6 cm-2 s-1 above 100 MeV. The goal of this proposal is to determine the nature of an event similar to the intense, non-blazar, transient of presumably Galactic nature that EGRET has detected near the Galactic plane once in its lifetime. The lack of a loud and flat radio source and of a known X-ray binary in the error box indicates either a new manifestation of a non-blazar active galaxy lying behind the Milky Way, or a new facet of Galactic compact objects that does not fit into the current scenarii. FERMI has been launched in June 2008 and will scan the whole Galactic plane every 90 minute orbit, starting in August. We propose two ATCA observations to be simultaneous with 1) Swift and 2) Chandra, to locate the radio counterpart with the arcsecond precision required for identification in crowded Galactic environments, to constrain the radio variability, and to measure the radio spectra for characterization and identification of the gamma-ray source.
