A general review is given of the effects of metamorphism on sulphide deposits, special emphasis being laid on deposits of the “Kieslagerstätten” type. A historical review is given of the development of concepts regarding sulphide ore metamorphism from the beginning of the century to the present day. There then follows a survey of the effects produced in sulphides by the various types of metamorphism affecting the crust of the earth, under the headings contact (thermal), cataclastic, hydrothermal and regional metamorphism. Consideration is given to the changes in mineralogy and in fabric (Gefüge) produced by these various types of metamorphism as well as to the mobilization of minerals and elements from existing bodies of sulphides.
