In the spiral arm Carina-Sagittarius the age gradient across the arm appears to be due to a spiral density wave. The spiral pattern velocity Ωp ≈ 12-20 km/s kpc is estimated. In the Perseus arm no distinct age gradient was found probably because of its position near the corotation radius R = 12-15 kpc. The absence of an age gradient across the Orion arm indicates this arm to bear no relation to spiral density wave and large-scale galactic structure.
