We report on a continuing program to investigate the mid-IR emission of weakly active galaxy nuclei. We observe these objects with the high-resolution MIRLIN imaging array camera at the Palomar 5m telescope. These observations permit the study of nuclear emission separate from diffuse stellar-related emission, unlike IRAS or previous large-aperture bolometer measurements. Further, they permit the study of dusty objects, since extinction is small in the mid-IR for all but the largest dust columns. Our images from UT 2001 February 6 show point source emission from M87, a LINER 2, and M58, a Seyfert 1.9/LINER 1.9. Preliminary estimates give point source fluxes at N (centered at 10.6 micron) of 9 mJy +/- 20 conditions, and 63 mJy +/- 10 conditions, statistical errors only. Some recent X-ray observations (Terashima, Ho, and Ptak 2000, Roberts, Schurch, and Warwick 2001) show LINER 2 objects with strong thermal spectral components, unlike Seyferts. In contrast, the bright, compact nuclear emission we detect argues for a mid-IR source related to a nuclear black hole or other compact source.
