The helium-to-metal enrichment, ΔY/ΔZ, can be determined using the interpretation of the observational Hertzsprung-Russel diagram (HRD) by means of theoretical stellar models. We emphasise two different approaches: the calibration of the helium for binary stellar systems and clusters with known metal abundance; and the observational main sequence spread for low mass stars. In this paper we resume the most recent results using these approaches with a particular attention to those based on HIPPARCOS parallaxes. The question of the ΔY/ΔZ unicity is briefly discussed.
