An overview is given of a workshop on Extragalactic Infrared Astronomy held at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, May 20-27, 1985. The main thrust of the workshop was aimed at the understanding of aspects of star formation within galaxies. The presentations of attendees discussing their interpretations of selected parts of the wealth of IRAS data are summarized briefly.
