The high-resolution imager of the Einstein Observatory has the resolution necessary to resolve components of some nearby binaries. From an analysis of four systems that are within 10 pc of the Sun and that contain one or more dM stars, the authors report on the occurrence of X-ray flares with time scales of tens of minutes. One of the stars has an extended X-ray image which is interpreted as evidence for the existence of an unseen companion.
