A strong NaI D absorption line in the spectrum of quasar PKS 1327-206 (ze = 1.1696) at a red shift za = 0.0180, very similar to that of the galaxy MCG 03-34-085 which lies 38 arcsec away in the plane of the sky was discovered. Combined optical and UV observations confirm that the gas far from the nucleus of MCG 03-34-085 is of low ionization degree, with unusual large column densities for such a galactocentric distance. This is to be compared with the higher ionization degrees and smaller equivalent widths found in high Galactic latitude gas. This evidence supports the hypothesis that the lines originate in the outer disk at a large distance from the nucleus. The existence of such an extended disk is further supported by the weak diffuse continuum emission in CCD frames near the quasar.
