A model in which the expansion of the radio emitting components in Seyfert 2 nuclei compress and accelerate the ambient medium by means of shock waves is described. When the expansion velocity of the component decreases to 400 km/sec, the compressed gas cools and radiates producing the forbidden line region. This readily accounts for the intimate relationship between the radio continuum emission and the properties of the forbidden line region.
