Resonance-line formation in QSOs with broad absorption lines is considered under the assumption that the envelope of the QSO has purely radial motion. An axisymmetric decelerated outflow model with the density of scattering atoms highest in the equatorial plane and lowest toward the poles can yield line profiles fitting those typified both by PHL 5200 (abrupt changeover from emission to absorption components) and by Q1246-057 (well-separated emission and absorption). Several other arguments are given that support a disklike geometry for the outflows in broad-absorption QSOs. It is concluded that the role of a random jet can in fact be played by a disk-shaped envelope.
