The gravitational redshift and the correlation between the vertical velocity and the emissivity of the gas in the transition region between the chromosphere and the corona give rise to a displacement of the He I 58.4 nm line in the solar spectrum with respect to the resonant wavelength. The displacement probably exceeds 0.6 km/s and may be as large as several km/s. If the displacement is taken into account, the temperature and the velocity of the interstellar wind deduced from the observations of the backscattered radiation in the He I 58.4 nm line are lower than the values obtained when the displacement is assumed to be absent.
