The equilibrium distributions of pressure, density, gravitational potential, internal and gravitational energies per unit area, are found for infinite self-gravitating slabs, with pressure and density related by a polytropic equation. A general but approximate series expansion for the plane Lane-Emden solution thetan(xi) is obtained. The dependence of the half-thickness xi1, the half-thickness enclosing the half-mass per unit area xi1/2, and the total mass per unit area are found as a function of the polytropic index n. It is proved that the half-thickness xi1 and the total mass per unit area are finite for all values of n not less than 0.
