Chuikova (1985, 1986) obtained a representation of the external
gravitational potential of a planet in the form of a spherical-function
expansion. In the present paper, the parameters of the expansion are
chosen in such a way for a prescribed observation region that the
maximum convergence rate is achieved for the expansion.
