This paper presents a four-color (BVRIKC) CCD survey of ten southern globular clusters. Surface-brightness analysis shows the existence of regions with light deficiency, which are likely to be identified as obscured areas. The behavior of the apparent extinction can be explained, assuming that relatively dark clouds (intrinsic AV = 2.5 mag, on the average) are located within the clusters. Color sampling on 21 cloud candidates reveals that, in 18 cases, the apparent extinction as a function of wavelength is consistent with a combination of geometrical (position) and scattering effects. Dust masses are on the order of 5×10-3M_sun; per cloud, but the minimum total dust content in each cluster may be one order of magnitude larger.
