Galaxy interactions in high-density environments are studied by a radio survey of galaxies of different morphological types in 66 compact groups from Hickson's (1982) catalog. A total of 302 galaxies (79 E, 95 SO, and 128 S) were included in the survey, 71 of which were detected as radio sources. The radio properties of the galaxies suggest that tidal interaction is the dominant physical process in the initiation of nuclear activity. The statistical properties of the radio emission suggest that the tidal interactions in E and SO and S galaxies differ in such a way that the time-scales for the duration of activity in the two classes are significantly different.
