Recent high-resolution water vapor observations are discussed which demonstrate that a number of strong 22-GHz H2O masers show evidence of a symmetrical radial-velocity structure in their spectra. These structures consist of one or more pairs of features separated by approximately equal radial-velocity displacements of 1 to 15 km/s from a central symmetry axis. The observed sources include H2O 285.3-0.1, H2O 331.0-0.2, W 51, M 17, the source associated with VY CMa, and Orion A. It is suggested that a symmetrical radial-velocity structure is a basic feature of many strong H2O sources and that the observed splitting in frequency is almost certainly due to emission from regions with different velocities.
