From spectrograms of 3C 120 obtained with an image-tube spectrograph on the 102-inch Crimean reflector on 21 nights during 1972-1979, equivalent widths are determined for the H alpha, H beta, and lambda 4959 (O III) emission lines. Comparison with Lytyi's photoelectric photometry (1977) shows that the light variations in the nucleus of the galaxy were accompanied by variations of the H beta lines, whereas the lambda 4959 (O III) flux remained essentially stable. Neither the equivalent-width ratio of H alpha and H beta nor the form of their profiles experienced appreciable change. The variability phenomena observed may possibly be attributable to the presence of dust.
