G-mode cluster analysis is applied to portions of a Viking Lander 2 image filtered through six spectral channels covering the wavelength range from 0.4 to 1.1 microns. The results indicate that G-mode statistics can identify significant classes of picture-element populations that exhibit different spectral signatures and geographic distributions. It is suggested that the areal distributions of the G-mode classes and the boundaries between different units representing classes may be identified by displaying the data on a TV screen with a given color or gray-level code.
