A model that provides a reference cone shape for fresh lunar craters is developed which can be used to compute volumetric differences between observed and reference shapes. Several simulated craters are examined, and the model is applied to the lunar crater Manners. A moderate degree of alteration is found for the crater. It is concluded that the model can be easily applied to various problems of crater morphology, such as investigating the effects of modification processes on crater walls.
