Troublesome paradoxes are examined which ensue when the kinematics of the Local Supercluster and the gravitation interaction of the Virgo Cluster and the Local Group of galaxies are analyzed on the basis of the classical model of galaxies. It is shown that the paradoxes can be resolved if the Local Group is assumed to be twice as far from the Virgo Cluster than is widely accepted and to be bound by dark matter. It is argued that giant galaxies are probably embedded in massive invisible coronae, that the total mass density of the universe may exceed the critical density, and that a closed model of the universe cannot be ruled out.
