In the present paper, a steady plane stream of a viscous compressible ideal gas propagating parallel to the earth's surface is analyzed under the assumption that the jet is thin and that the inertial terms may be neglected in the linearized system of equations of motion. The results of the analysis are used to model nonregular winds in the upper atmosphere.
