Terrestrial and extraterrestrial resonance emissions of neutral and ionized helium were observed by means of a multiresonance cell device on board a Skylark 12 rocket. Results from a flight from Natal, Brazil, are shown, and a preliminary data analysis given. Observations of drastically different height profiles in the 58.4 nm data registered with empty and with filled resonance cells were made. These differences are due to the predominance of multiple and singly scattered photons, respectively, originating in the helium geocorona. The extraterrestrial 58.4 nm emission peak is spectrally identified at 0.001 nm wavelength indicating only 3 k/m sec as a mean projected relative velocity of interplanetary helium atoms with respect to the earth. The 30.4 nm sensor is shown to be free from He I resonance radiation or other nonhelium radiation contamination. The 30.4 nm signal shows strongly pronounced variations with the solar aspect angle, clearly pointing to some extraterrestrial radiation which originates close to the sun (r about 0.3 AU).
