Any anisotropy in the early universe which causes relative drift between leptons and baryons can force unstable growth of current filaments. Charge balance causes electron (positron) filaments to trap protons (antiprotons), thus forcing matter-antimatter separation. In the lepton era, growth of these magnetostatic instabilities cannot be suppressed by collisions or thermal effects. Linear growth rates are calculated for a fully relativistic hot collisional plasma, and large growth rates comparable to the lepton plasma frequency are found for a wide range of parameters. It seems unlikely that any other plasma instabilities can cause matter-antimatter separation because their convective nature mixes charge excesses rapidly. Nonlinearly, current filaments will grow by mutual attraction, eventually producing mass concentrations of the size of the anisotropic region. This mechanism will begin spontaneously, or can aid matter accumulation which already exists due to the Omnes process.
