Possible configurations of magnetic fields which can coexist with an observationally confirmed differential rotation in the Sun are analysed. A method for verification of hypotheses on free torsional oscillations in the radiative zone based on helioseismological data is proposed. It is shown that the currently available accuracy of these data is insufficient for definite conclusions.
