There is increasing empirical evidence that the nuclei of radio- quiet Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) contain a substantial amount of young stars. These observations give strong support to a starburst-AGN connection. However, to assess if star formation plays an important role in all AGN, we are investigating an important remaining class: the powerful radiosources. We propose to observe the nuclei of a complete radio-selected sample of powerful radiogalaxies, using R- C to measure the strength of spectral features indicative of any young stellar population which may be present. We aim at measuring the Balmer absorption series, Balmer break, 4000 Abreak, G band and Mg Ib (lambda) 5171 and use line and continuum indices related to these features to derive the age and metallicity of the stellar populations involved.
