This project proposes to image a newly discovered population of dwarf starburst galaxies in z> 0.2 clusters. Identified photometrically using narrow band continuum colors, this cluster subpopulation displays the colors of a reddened starburst but with total luminosities that indicate their pre-burst progenitors are very low in luminosity (i.e. mass). Thus, the mechanism to produce this population is unclear since low mass galaxies should be robust against the cluster tidal field and interactions (galaxy harassment). Due to the faint absolute magnitude of this population, multi-fiber spectroscopy is an unattractive option since it would limit our survey to a single cluster for a reasonable number of nights. For this initial program, we wish to survey a handful of clusters between z=0.2 and 0.5, which have available HST imaging, to determine the structure and morphology of the dwarf starbursts as well as determine the depth of the starburst population with respect to other galaxy types. Spectroscopy programs emphasize emission lines as measures of current star formation; however, the dwarf starbursts have been identified due to our narrow band filter system's focus on the continuum around the 4000Abreak. We wish to expand on the success of our method using a 4m class telescope.
