The paper introduces a multiscale technique, the wavelet transform, for studying subclustering in clusters of galaxies on the basis of 2D or 3D data. The performance of the method is shown on a set of toy models, and the statistical validity of the results is discussed for both 2D and 3D cases. The method's application to the cluster A754 confirm the presence of subclustering in this system.
