The GPO astrograph at the ESO and a second astrograph are utilized to give the positions of minor planets with photographic position. The method is based on the standard technique of using three exposures slightly spaced in declination, and five stars are used for reference in the measurement and reduction. The present method is theorized to provide accurate measurements and an enhanced ability to identify the observed asteroids.
