The Davidsen candidate for Serpens X-1 was resolved into two stars separated by 2.1 arcsec. One is ultraviolet and shows apparent emission at He II 4686 A; this star is identified with the X-ray source. Color limits imply an obscuration A(B) of not less than 6.2. This confirms that the X-ray to optical luminosity ratio is very large (greater than 100).
