An exact analytic solution of the linear perturbation equation is presented for a flat (k = 0) matter and radiation universe, valid over scales larger than the horizon, in terms of hypergeometric functions. The behavior of these solutions, for the case of adiabatic and isothermal perturbations, agrees with previous work. A new solution is obtained for the case of zero initial curvature perturbations, which may arise as a result of black hole formation in the radiation era. The dominant growing mode for this case, contrary to some previous approximate results, grows proportional to the time.
