It is noted that, with increasing accuracy in satellite observations and greater refinement in research topics, the need for a third-order perturbation theory has become pressing. Such a theory is addressed here by first studying the perturbations of intermediate orbits. The Vinti-type intermediate orbit containing J3 is chosen because it contains many perturbations. Its potential functions contains the whole of J2 and J3 perturbations and two-thirds of the J4 perturbation. A detailed derivation is given of the basic solution that is accurate to the third order. Also given are the Poisson's brackets of the elements of this intermediate orbit.
