Development of the Infrared Survey Facility (IRSF) 1.4-m telescope is reported through the first light at South African Astronomical Observatory. Nagoya University and Nishimura Company made collaboration and developed the IRSF, which has been produced many papers with the infrared camera SIRIUS for these four years. One undergraduate and one master-course graduate student (then) slept in the Company and took part in the development; this was probably an unprecedented enterprise and brought a great asset to us all.
