A detailed model for the solar transition zone for hole regions is constructed. It shows the correct network width, reproduces the observed UV-line intensities above a temperature range of 100,000 K, is a critical solution of the solar wind equation, and shows a shift of the Ne VII-layer (temperature range between 650,000 and 700,000 K) of several thousand kilometers upwards as observed by Huber et al. (1974). The last two features of the model can be achieved only if the magnetic field line divergence in the outer corona is greater than radial, and if, in addition to the coronal, there is a second peak in the heating function at lower layers.
