The variable Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3783 is being monitored intensively over a broad wavelength range during 1992 in order to address fundamental problems on the nature of continuum emission from AGNs and the structure and dynamics of the broad emission-line region. We propose to obtain a FOS spectra to complement a large number of IUE observations which will be used in variability analysis; the higher signal-to-noise ratio and higher resolution available with the FOS will provide an important complement to the high time resolution data available with IUE. High-quality FOS spectra will be of key importance in emission-line profile studies by allowing us to better assess the relative contribution from various emission-line components, especially the contaminating emission from the narrow-line region.
