The late-type spiral galaxy NGC 4571 is observed with a high-resolution camera, and the apparent magnitudes of the brightest supergiants are used to estimate the distance to the Virgo CLuster galaxies. Point-spread function-fitting photometric techniques are used to apply quantitative and objective criteria to the identification of H II stars and compact clusters. Multicolor low-resolution data are used to identify the red and blue supergiants, and a distance modulus is obtained of m-M = 30.9 +/- 0.2 mag. The distance is in agreement with other recent estimates of the distance to the Virgo Cluster which indicate large values for H0 and relatively short distances to the cluster. An absolute calibration for Type Ia supernovae is developed based on the results for which MB = -19.0 +/- 0.2.
