Spectra of Comet Austin around 3.4 microns were obtained on April 29 and 30 UT in 1990 at heliocentric distances of 0.64 and 0.66 AU, respectively. Both spectra showed the 3.4-micron feature between 3.2 and 3.6 microns. The integrated intensity of the feature appeared to be about the same in both nights, while the continuum flux decreased by a factor of 1.5-2 in one day. A model is proposed in which the variation of the ratio of the 3.4-micron feature to continuum fluxes is interpreted in terms of intermittent ejection of grains with organic mantles from the nucleus.
