The position residuals after a linear block adjustment can yield information on the field distortion of a telescope if these are expressed as functions of the rectangular coordinates on the plates. The system is applied to two series of plates taken with the CIDA Schmidt telescope (1m). Between the two series a significant change in the plate bending mechanism was installed. A comparison of the distortion found from the two series shows that the about mechanism may be an additional source of field deformation.
