Spectral resolution is a fundamental parameter for spectral synthesis. Its use differs for photometric redshifts determination and for metallicity studies in galaxies. At low spectral resolution (R < 200), some age constraints can be used to estimate accurately photometric redshifts. A better resolution makes the estimations easier by reducing the minimal number of photometric bands. On the other hand, the determination of the age and the metallicity of stellar populations can be improved with a precise modeling of high resolution spectra. The stellar library ELODIE with high spectral resolution (R=15000) was implemented into PEGASE evolutionary model giving PEGASE-HR (Fioc, Lancon, Le Borgne, Prugniel, Rocca-Volmerange, Soubiran). The sensitivity of this model to H, Fe, Mg, and Na absorption lines can reduce the age-metallicity degeneracy.
