Synchrotron and inverse-Compton emission from inhomogeneous jets is quite successful in explaining multifrequency emission of blazars from low energy radio range to TeV energies, once correction for contamination by the host galaxy has been applied. In this frame, we considere two scenarios for VHE flares. Comparison with light curves obtained in radio and other low frequency range allows some test of the models, as we show for Mrk 421.
