We present the results of the first three years of a single dish radio monitoring of HR 1099 we are carrying out using the 32m radiotelescope at the Noto VLBI station. Several flares, with flux density up to 800mJy, have been detected. These observations provide useful information on the occurrence of radio flares and their relation with the quiescent component. We have also investigated the long term behaviour of the radio emission from HR 1099 by including additional data available from the literature. A correlation between the beginning of a new activity cycle, as suggested by long-term photometry, and the occurrence of strong radio flares is apparent from the data.
