The physical cause of the discrepancy among different stellar model calculations relative to the lifetime of the main nuclear phases (core H- and He-burning) is clarified. It is shown that a fundamental inconsistency affects the models with core overshoot and corresponding isochrones calculated by Maeder & Meynet (1991). The color excess, distance modulus, and age of IC 4651 are rederived with the aid of new models for both the classical and the overshoot mixing scheme. It is found that the core H-burning lifetime of the stars in the mass range published by Maeder & Meynet exceeds the maximum nuclear lifetime allowed by the structure of their models. With the standard models a color excess of 0.16, a distance modulus of 9.6, and an age of 1.4 x 10 exp 9 yr are obtained. With the overshoot models, the respective values are 0.14, 9.5, and 2.0 x 10 exp 9 yr.
