Recent progress in the study of bare strange stars is briefly reviewed. Discussions of the electric characters and the emission mechanisms of bare quark surface, and of the possible astrophysical implications of the existence of bare strange stars, e.g., the drifting sub-pulse phenomenon of radio pulsars and the super-Eddington emission of soft gamma-ray repeaters, are presented. These researches are essential to distinguish neutron stars and (bare) strange stars in astrophysics.
