We have observed the v = (0, 20, 0) J = 1 - 0 emission of HCN in IRC+10216, with the IRAM interferometer on Plateau de Bure. The continuum flux agrees with previous models of the photospheric and dust emission. The line emission not significantly resolved, and a lower limit of 2000 K is found for the brightness temperature. This is consistent with a weak maser emission, with gain 10-20, occurring in the acceleration region, within 5 stellar radii from the star.
