A set of numerical experiments aimed at quantifying various aspects of the horizontal turbulence (HT) ansatz of Chaboyer and Zahn (1992) is presented. It is demonstrated that the transition to 1-D behavior for both particle and angular momentum transport occurs for horizontal Reynolds numbers RH not greater than about 1, while the effective inhibition of meridional-circulation-mediated particle transport occurs for RH not greater than about 0.01. Constraints on the HT hypothesis can also be inferred from the diffusion models for FmAm and HgMn stars.
